Compulsory Student Services Fee
The Compulsory Student Services Fee (or Student Services Levy for domestic students) contributes to funding student services such as health care and counselling services. Wintec students are invoiced for the fee at the same time as their tuition fees.
The costs for the CSSF are set annually by our Council and based on the recovery of the direct cost component of the CSSF services that we provide.
The fee is made up of:
- 2018 Compulsory Student Services Fee - $435 per Equivalent Full-time Student (GST included).
- 2019 Compulsory Student Services Fee - $475 per Equivalent Full-time Student (GST included).
- 2020 Compulsory Student Services Fee - $515 per Equivalent Full-time Student (GST included).
- 2021 Compulsory Student Services Fee - $555 per Equivalent Full-time Student (GST included).
- 2022 Compulsory Student Services Fee - $566 per Equivalent Full-time Student (GST included).
- 2023 Compulsory Student Services Fee - $581 per Equivalent Full-time Student (GST included).
- 2024 Compulsory Student Services Fee - $597 per Equivalent Full-time Student (GST included).
The compulsory student services fee is used to help fund the cost of delivering student services as detailed below:
Careers advice and guidance
Wintec | Te Pūkenga provides support to students to assist their transition into employment. Support includes Curriculum Vitae (CV) workshops, interview practice and career guidance.
Health service, counselling, and pastoral care
Wintec | Te Pūkenga has doctors and nurses available for students. They provide a number of services to support students to stay well, obtain advice and gain medical assistance when needed.
We have counsellors and international advisors available to provide
students with pastoral care.
A chaplain is also available to provide pastoral care, spiritual guidance and counselling.
We have kaiāwhina and student advisors who act as a direct link between students and our support services. They are embedded within ‘at risk’ programmes to aid in completion and retention of students.
Te Kete Manaaki
Te Kete Manaaki encompasses our learning support teams.
It practices and promotes manaakitanga and whanaungatanga to all ākonga at Wintec. Its aim is to empower tauira Māori and Pacific to get the best out of their time studying.
Our marae is multi-purpose, where ākonga (learner) and kaimahi (staff) can conduct and experience teaching, learning and pastoral support in a uniquely Māori environment.
We provide academic learning support through workshops, in-class tutoring, groups, drop-ins and online sessions. We also provide academic and equipment support to people with disabilities.
Reporting and decision-making requirements
Wintec | Te Pūkenga is required to report the student services levy income and expenditure in its Annual Report. The relevant section covering this is page 36 of the 2017 Annual Report.
The Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) has produced a compulsory student services fees guide titled Are you charging compulsory student services fees? This document outlines ways for tertiary institutions to comply with the Ministerial Direction.
Consultation process
At Wintec | Te Pūkenga, we are constantly looking at ways to ensure we provide the most appropriate support for ākonga, at their points of need.
We gather this feedback through ākonga surveys, our student forums, projects involving students and other opportunities, to gauge directly from ākonga themselves how we are doing.
Our aim is to provide assistance that will make the most difference to their success and experience as a student at Wintec | Te Pūkenga, and we value the feedback students provide.
