Centre for Engineering and Industrial Design
Our ultra-modern $25 million state-of-the-art engineering and trades facility opened at our Rotokauri campus in early 2014. The facility provides our engineering students with an opportunity to learn in an environment that better reflects industry standards and uses the latest techniques, technologies and equipment.
Meanwhile, we’re working with industry to provide 'real-world’ research solutions to real-world industry challenges. For example, we recently acquired New Zealand’s first ultra-high definition, mass production, liquid resin 3D printer. With it, we’re working with companies to radically improve the way they think about and perform industrial design. In less than 24 hours, we can take a customer’s prototype drawing, translate it into a computer model, print it and deliver it into their hands.
Engineering
The Bachelor of Engineering Technology (BEngTech) is the first degree to be jointly offered by the six leading Metropolitan Institutes of Technology/Polytechnics in the country. The programme was developed in consultation with industry and the Institute of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ), ensuring students gain the real skills employers need, aligned with international standards. Wintec offers this degree with majors in civil, electrical and mechanical engineering.
Wintec has a long history of delivering the former New Zealand Certificate in Engineering (NZCE) programmes and the National Diplomas in Mechanical, Civil and Electrical Engineering. These programmes are well recognised by industry and graduates are highly sought after.
We are now offering the New Zealand Diploma in Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, the new national standard in engineering diplomas.
Industrial Design
Our Industrial Design students have the benefit of learning alongside trades and engineering students in the new, state-of-art trades and engineering building at the Rotokauri Campus, giving them a greater awareness and contacts across the industry.
