What do you enjoy about teaching/your job?
I enjoy engaging with students and helping them to achieve their potential. I enjoy building relationships with industry, and having these relationships benefit my students in terms of work opportunities, and industry experience. Also, I love working with a dedicated, humourous team in the Music Department that all have the same focus – to provide the best experience to students that we possibly can.
What do you love about your area?
I love how music connects people from all different backgrounds, and how the New Zealand music industry is a very small, and close-knit community.
Tell us about your experience in the industry
As a musician, I’ve played in bands on the local scene for several years as a singer-songwriter. I’ve recently been involved in sonic art projects with other members of the music department, and Japanese sonic artist Haco. As an academic, my work has been published in The Cambridge Companion to the Singer-Songwriter.
What keeps you busy outside of Media Arts?
I love fishing off the wharf at Raglan harbour, dabbling in zine-making, and hanging out with my two rabbits.
