What do you enjoy about teaching/your job?
The most enjoyable aspect of teaching at Wintec is having the opportunity to mentor, encourage and inspire students in an area of study I love. It is very rewarding fostering students strengths and watching them accomplish their achievements.
What do you love about your area?
Interior design provides opportunities to make a positive difference in peoples lives by shaping the places and spaces that we live in. As interior designers, we can have a huge impact on our community, and it’s wellbeing by creating beautiful, healthy environments through carefully considered design.
Tell us about your experience in the industry
After graduating from The University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Architecture (Hons.) in 2005, I moved back to the Waikato and have worked in a few local Architectural practices. My experience as a registered architect has covered a broad range of project types including commercial, residential, educational, sports facilities, hospitality, retail & religious projects. I’m particularly interested in sustainable design and am a Homestar Practitioner through the NZ Green Building Council.
What keeps you busy outside of Media Arts?
At the start of 2017, I embarked on a mountain a month challenge with a group of mountain walking mums. We are keeping it local by exploring mountains within Waikato’s big backyard. We have just completed our 9th mountain in September where we were rewarded with hail on the Mt Maungakawa Trail. This adventure provides ample opportunity to combine many things I love in life - fitness, friends, photography, & being out in nature which all present different sources of inspiration for my design life.
