Sir Robert Jones Refugee Daughters’ Scholarship
Background
The Sir Robert Jones Refugee Daughters’ Scholarship assists young women from refugee backgrounds to complete a university degree or tertiary qualification from an approved tertiary institution.
*Tuition fees will be paid in full through to degree attainment, subject to satisfactory progress being made each year towards completion of the degree. University hostel accommodation will be paid for two years of study if the student is required to attend a tertiary institution outside their home town.
Selection criteria
Young women from refugee backgrounds who are:
- Aged 18-25 years
- A permanent resident or citizen of New Zealand
- Already studying at a New Zealand university or tertiary institution
- In financial and/or personal hardship
Guidelines
- RASNZ facilitates and administers the application and selection process in collaboration with Robt. Jones Holdings
- The scholarship must be taken up in the year for which it is awarded
- The scholarship is for full-time study only
- Annual renewal of the scholarship is dependent on the student making satisfactory progress toward completion of the degree in the specified time frame ie three to four years depending on the specific course of study
- The scholarship may not be deferred or suspended during the tenure, except under exceptional circumstances
Application and selection process
- Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an interview with Robert Jones Holdings and RASNZ staff and their University partner representatives.
- Interview days will be scheduled in August and September in Dunedin, Wellington and Auckland. Travel expenses for attending the interview will be paid if students must travel from out of town.
- Referees will be contacted as required.

Students must upload the following documents:
- An INZ immigration document which confirms your refugee- background status.
- Proof of your NZ permanent residency or citizenship.
- Your school or university academic records*.
- Your university results for Semester 1*.
- Your letter from StudyLink confirming your Student Allowance*.
- An academic reference, preferably written by a lecturer or tutor.
- A character reference, written by a respected person in the community.
- A letter of application, written by you, telling the selectors about your personal and academic journey, your goals and aspirations, your financial and/or personal hardship circumstances and why you should be awarded this scholarship.
