Students in this programme will learn to write better assignments, essays and reports. Each module takes approximately 20 hours to complete and includes quizzes and self-tests.

What you will learn

Grammar online

This module will help you to understand basic grammar, punctuation, simple sentence structure and commonly confused words.

Students will learn:

  • Using capitals
  • Contractions
  • Full stops, question marks and exclamation marks
  • Nouns, proper nouns and pronouns
  • Basic sentence structure
  • Direct speech
  • Commonly confused words
  • Verbs
  • Abbreviations
  • Plurals
  • Commas
  • Agreement of subject and verb

Writing online

Following on from Grammar Online, this module will explain how to make writing clear, concise and considerate.

Content:

  • Word groups and sentence structure (the basics)
  • Spelling, punctuation and editing
  • Grammar errors
  • Style
  • Writing for the reader
  • Review tests

Report writing online

This module will help students to understand the rules for writing reports.

Content:

  • Writing and sourcing factual information for findings
  • Writing conclusions consistent with the evidence presented
  • Writing recommendations
  • Report format
  • Language of reports
  • Proofreading
  • Review tests

He reo pōwhiri, your official welcome to Wintec

Tēnei te mihi mahana ki a koe e piki nei, e kake nei ki te Kuratini o Waikato.

You are warmly invited to attend the official welcome to Wintec for all new students, staff and whānau (family) at either our marae, Te Kōpū Mānia o Kirikiriroa or Rotokauri campus. The pōwhiri is a welcoming ceremony involving mihimihi (speeches), waiata (singing), and will conclude with kai timotimo (light refreshments). Please gather at the campus hubs, and a staff member will guide you through our pōwhiri.
