1. Discuss the basic principles of assisting with diagnostic procedures relevant to the rural animal context.
2. Explain the preparation and maintenance of equipment for routine procedures in the rural animal context.
3. Describe the skills required to assist with rural animal healthcare.
Content
LO1
• Health and safety and legislation in relation to imaging and laboratory diagnostics
• Laboratory and imaging equipment care & maintenance
• Assisting with diagnostics procedures including restraint of rural animals for diagnostics

LO2
• Preparation and maintenance of the equipment used for rural animal healthcare procedures
• Aseptic management of equipment for routine procedures
• Management of biosecurity and environmental hygiene

LO3
• Preparation for rural animal healthcare procedures in relation to health and safety, hygiene, and environment
• Caring for rural non-surgical patients
• Pre and post operative care of rural animal surgical patients
• Recognising normal and abnormal responses to rural animal healthcare procedures
Teaching and Learning Strategy
Learning and teaching activities will employ a range of elements drawn from approved methods to align with the context of the learning (delivery mode, regional specific requirement, etc.) and any particular needs of the group of aakonga.
Assessment Criteria
Assessment in this course employs an achievement-based grading scheme. Aakonga will be advised of all matters relating to summative assessment at the start of the course.
Aakonga are required to provide sufficient evidence against all learning outcomes in order to pass a course.
