1. Explain the principles and operation of circuit protection components and systems.
2. Select and install circuit protection components in accordance with current legislation.
3. Apply industry symbols and conventions to produce a variety of electrical drawings.
4. Design and construct power switching circuits.
5. Outline the operating principles, design and installation requirements of a variety of lighting systems.
Content
Topics include but are not limited to:
- Construction, operation, ratings and applications of common circuit protection devices.
- RCD classifications, ratings and applications.
- Installation of fuse element replacements.
- Selection and installation of common circuit protection devies.
- Protectio in hazardous areas.
- Electrical drawing conventions and symbols.
- Power switching circuits.
- Lighting systems.
Assessment Criteria
Theory and practical assessments are selected from range of methods described in the programme document. Assessment methods may vary from provider to provider to accommodate regional requirements. Students will be advised of all matters relating to summative assessment at the start of the course.

This course is assessed using competency-based assessment. Students must successfully complete all summative assessments in order to pass and receive credit for this course.
Teaching and Learning Strategy
The programme uses a range of teaching and learning methods as described in the Programme Document. learning and teaching activities employed in this course may vary slightly, from provider to provider and cohort to cohort, to accommodate varying cohort numbers, localised resources and requirements.

All course scontain a combination of learning activities aimed at providing a mix of practical-based or applied activity as well as the presentation of theoretical knowledge.
