Content
- Geotechnical factors and substructures: overview of substructure and design requirements including site constraints, materials, time, and cost. Foundation methods utilising a range of materials – timber, concrete, steel.
- Building types and structure: use and empirical design requirements, provision for services, materials, cladding and finishes. Construction process – site constraints, range of materials, time, and cost implications for specific and non-specific design.
- Building envelope: selection and design – wall/roof cladding and openings are in accordance with characteristics of structure. Design principles – typical cladding jointing system. Provision for services, materials, and finishes. Construction process – site constraints, range of materials, time, and cost implications.
- Interior linings, joinery, fitments. Selection meets building characteristics and regulatory requirements. Provision for services, materials and finishes. Construction process – site constraints, materials, time and cost implications.
- Technical sketches.

- Evaluate building types and structures for a small building.
- Evaluate building envelope material, interior linings, joinery, and fitments for a small - building including legislative requirements.
- Create technical sketches for a small building project.

Assessment in this course employs an achievement-based grading scheme. Aakonga will be advised of all matters relating to summative assessment prior to the start of the course.
