- Students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate an introductory awareness and recognition of the unique place of tangata whenua and mana whenua in Aotearoa New Zealand in relation to self.
2. Explain and discuss the importance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi as the foundation for education in Aotearoa New Zealand and their own professional responsibility.
3. Practice and develop their understanding and use of te reo me nga tikanga Maaori within an early childhood education context. - Content
- • Te ao Maaori including practicing and developing use of te reo me nga tikanga Maaori in an early childhood education context.
• The historical context of education in Aotearoa New Zealand including significant legislation.
• The historical and contemporary educational context through Te Tiriti o Waitangi, curricula, current strategic documents.
• Personal identity and values and how these guide emerging early childhood teaching philosophy, practice and professional responsibility. - Teaching and Learning Strategy

- Assessment Criteria
- The portfolio is comprised of multiple components. Students need to provide sufficient evidence against all learning outcomes and gain an overall mark of at least 50% in order to pass this module.

The annual required and recommended reading list will be provided to the students in Bachelor of Teaching (Early Years) annual Booklist and Student Module Booklet.
