The aim of this course is for aakonga to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes to reflect on a range of women's/pregnant people's experiences across the childbirth continuum to inform developing own midwifery practice.

- Continuity of experience (preconception, to completion of midwifery care)
- Social and cultural context of reproductive health (pregnancy loss, infertility, adoption/whaangai, grief, maternal mental health, equity)
- Hapori and community groups for social support
- Choices for childbirth and parenting
- Midwifery partnership in practice inclusive of cultural competence
- Place of birth choice including homebirth and influence of rural and urban context
- Complementary and alternative therapies
- Experiences of breastfeeding and infant feeding
- Introduction to nutrition and physical activity across the childbirth continuum
- Reflection practice
- Midwifery Council competencies for entry to the Register of Midwives

Learning Outcomes
LO1: Discuss women's/pregnant people's experiences of reproductive health and childbirth, as a life event, in diverse social and cultural contexts.
LO2: Achieve selected performance criteria for Midwifery Council Competencies to the expected level, across the childbirth continuum.
Teaching and Learning Strategy
Learning and teaching activities will employ a range of elements drawn from approved methods. The activities chosen will align with the context of the learning (delivery mode, regional-specific requirements, etc.) and any particular needs of the group of aakonga.

Assessment Criteria
Assessment in this course supports both achievement and competency-based assessment. Aakonga must achieve all learning outcomes and successfully complete all assessment items to pass this course.

Competency-based assessment completion: Aakonga must successfully complete all specified competency-based assessment items. There are no resubmission/resit opportunities for competency assessments.

Achievement-based assessment completion: Aakonga must submit all specified achievement-based assessment items and obtain a minimum of 50% in each achievement-based assessment.
