Prescription
This module aims to develop writing skills to meet common needs of students at a CEFR A1 level. Students will be able to copy simple texts with a degree of accuracy, and write simple isolated phrases and sentences to communicate about themselves and others.

Learning Outcomes
Complete a short, simple form with personal information.
Copy text accurately, correcting basic punctuation and capitalisation errors.
Write very simple descriptions, accounts and routines, single-step instructions and/or directions in familiar contexts using basic grammar structures and learnt language patterns.
Content
Mechanics
•punctuation and capital letters correctly to show beginnings and ends of sentences, proper nouns, personal pronoun ‘I’
•spelling of personal key words and familiar words
•basic written error correction
•simple phrase construction and sentences using only basic grammar structures.

Range
•basic range of vocabulary to deal with simple and familiar topics and tasks.
Organisation
•simple sentence writing on familiar topics
•short sequence writing of simple sentences to form a basic message.

Assessment Criteria
The portfolio is comprised of multiple assessment tasks, not tests alone. Assessment will be in a highly supportive environment (see NZQA/NZCEL Guiding Document). To pass this module, students must attempt and pass all assessment tasks.
