- By the end of this course the student will be able to:
1. Identify and research potential news media stories
2. Set up a contacts database
3. Conduct and record interviews for news stories
4. Write accurate news stories from interviews for multiple platforms
5. Produce stories on specified topics, including Maori, diversity and civic institutions
6. Write to deadline - Content
- Content:
? Where do stories come from – identifying news values and gathering information
? Research using library and internet
? Methods of recording your findings
? Interviewing skills
? Interviewing in bicultural and diversity settings
? Notetaking and audio recording for interviewing
? Writing news stories, (including but not limited to: local government, court, police and emergency services, bicultural issues, diversity issues)
•Proofreading your own writing
