To demonstrate and apply principles involved in bioscience, pathophysiology, pharmacology and comprehensive assessment of hauora. Through a process of critical enquiry and clinical reasoning, students will identify the actual and potential health needs of health consumers in the bicultural context of Aotearoa New Zealand.

- Interpretation and analysis of assessment findings, diagnostic tests and laboratory results
- Critique of contemporary rangahau or research as evidence base for best practice
- Health assessment frameworks and Maori models of hauora
- Comprehensive health assessment including cultural, psychosocial and spiritual influences on health consumers’ experience of health, illness and physical and mental health assessment
- Professional assessment documentation
- Concepts of pharmacology, pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics
- Drug interactions and contraindications
- Maaori hauora practices and complimentary medicines
Hauora is a Maaori concept of well-being, which encompasses the physical, mental and emotional, social, and spiritual dimensions of health, and is recognised by the World Health Organisation. - Assessment Criteria
- The portfolio is comprised of multiple components. Students need to provide evidence against all learning outcomes and gain 50% in the Evidence Portfolio and pass the Clinical Competence Assessment to pass this module.
