Prescription
This module aims to develop listening skills necessary to meet basic needs of students at a CEFR A2 level. It will enable students to understand phrases and expressions related to areas of immediate needs of a concrete type. Students will be able to understand speech which is clearly and slowly articulated.

- Identify gist, context, feelings, opinions and relationships in short conversations, both formal and informal, connected with familiar topics.
Demonstrate understanding of simple questions, statements, narratives, directions, explanations and/or instructions.
Extract and reproduce key information, including detail, from simple spoken messages and announcements. - Content
- Phonological features
•phonological detail to distinguish between similar words
•stress and intonation in simple and compound sentences
•feelings, moods, attitudes, important points and opinions expressed through stress and intonation.

•key grammatical forms used in common everyday contexts and situations
•high frequency vocabulary and basic phrases relating to areas of immediate personal relevance in straightforward familiar formal and informal exchanges.

•texts illustrating main ideas in short, clear, simple messages, presentations and announcements, explanations, narratives and instructions
•conversational texts demonstrating topic, purpose, context, speakers, relationships and opinions

- The portfolio is comprised of multiple assessment tasks, not tests alone. To pass this module, students must attempt and pass all assessment tasks. Assessment must be in a supportive environment (see NZQA guidelines).
