Prescription
This module aims to develop reading skills required to understand written texts at a CEFR mid B1 level. It will enable students to understand straightforward written texts on familiar topics and subjects relating to his or her field of interest.

Locate and understand specific information in factual and descriptive real-life texts which may include graphics.
Demonstrate understanding of straightforward instructions, with some visual clues, for everyday tasks.
Get information from reference sources, including online.
Content

-spelling words relating to work, leisure and study on familiar topics. ?
-longer texts with some complex structures. ?

-features which signal different levels of formality ?
-features which indicate the purpose of a text. ?
Text structure ?
-the purpose of texts through layout conventions, common signs and symbols and cultural conventions ?
-organisational features of texts to locate information ?
-organisational, lexical and grammatical features of a text ?
-common structure of paragraphing to build up meaning in a text ?
-meaning built up over discourse using markers to indicate addition, sequence and contrast. ?

Assessment Criteria
The portfolio is comprised of multiple assessment tasks, not tests alone. To pass this module, students must attempt and pass all assessment tasks.
