Prescription
This module aims to develop listening skills required to understand language at a CEFR low B2 level. It will enable students to understand extended speech and complex lines of argument on reasonably familiar topics.

Demonstrate understanding of a short spoken text and apply information in English for an academic purpose
Identify main points, speakers, purposes and/or attitudes including abstract concepts in extended discussions on familiar topics.
Extract and reproduce key information from informal and semi-formal presentations on a range of familiar topics.
Content
Phonological features
-stress, intonation and pitch to follow discourse
-feelings, moods, attitudes, important points and opinions expressed through stress and intonation.

Range
-a broad range of grammatical forms used in familiar and some unfamiliar contexts
-high-to-medium frequency vocabulary and expressions relating to familiar and some unfamiliar topics.

Gist
-the main ideas in clearly structured presentations, conversations and discussions on familiar and unfamiliar topics.

Assessment Criteria
The portfolio is comprised of multiple assessment tasks, not tests alone. To pass this module, students must attempt and pass all summative assessment tasks.
