Prescription
This module aims to develop writing skills to meet applied needs of students at a CEFR low B2 level. They will begin to write clear, connected texts on a variety of subjects related to the applied contexts. The student will be able to use a range of linking words effectively to show clearly the relationship between ideas.

Learning Outcomes
Write using connected paragraphs to describe a sequence of events or compare information.
Write a short text under test conditions in English for an academic purpose.
Write a short crafted text for a specified audience using resource material in English for an academic purpose.

Mechanics
-punctuation in formal and informal texts including dashes, brackets, bullet points and speech marks
-spelling used in academic life
-basic grammatical structures, including conjunctions, connectives and discourse markers.
-recognised citation and referencing conventions in written work.

-vocabulary (including relevant academic vocabulary) suitable for purpose
-a range of complex structures
-register according to academic purpose.

Organisation
-links and organisation of ideas with a range of cohesive devices
-text organisation that reflects the structure of the ideas expressed.

Assessment Criteria
The portfolio is comprised of multiple assessment tasks, not tests alone. To pass this module, students must attempt and pass all summative assessment tasks
