- The portfolio is comprised of multiple components.
Students need to provide evidence against all learning outcomes, and gain an overall mark of 50% to pass this module. - Learning Outcomes
- 1. Apply evidence-based knowledge to frameworks for assessment in midwifery practice.
2. Apply understanding of anatomy and physiology to pregnancy and childbirth.
3. Discuss the woman/wahine and whaanau experience throughout the normal childbirth continuum.
4. Demonstrate developing critical thinking skills across the spectrum of normal midwifery care. - Content
- • Frameworks for holistic assessment of the woman/waahine and foetus during the childbirth continuum; includes NZCOM decision points, interpretation of laboratory results and other investigations common in normal pregnancy and childbirth
• Medicine calculations and administration
• Anatomy and physiology relating to pregnancy, labour and birth including menstrual cycle, pre-conceptual influences, foetal development, physiology of labour and birth
• Nutrition and physical activity for pregnancy and birth
• Preparation for breastfeeding
• Maaori experience of breastfeeding
• Woman/wahine and whaanau information and education needs including immunisation
• Theory and skill development of named midwifery skills - Teaching and Learning Strategy
- May include: Project-based Learning; Flipped Classroom; Blended Learning; Work-integrated Learning; Inclusive Practices.
Methods may include workshops and practical classes, tutorials, case-based learning, inquiry-based learning, group activities & discussion, supported online learning, e-portfolio, practice simulation.
