- 1. Demonstrate partnership with the woman/wahine and her family/whaanau with application of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, cultural safety and Tuuranga Kaupapa.
2. Demonstrate appropriate and professional verbal and written communication with women/waahine, whaanau/families and colleagues.
3. Demonstrate developing midwifery knowledge, skills, decision-making and critical thinking processes.
4. Demonstrate an understanding of professional boundaries and accountability within the midwifery scope of practice. - Content
- Clinical placement (150 hours)
• Application of Tuuranga Kaupapa and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
• Integration of knowledge and named midwifery practice skills
• Development, adaptations and ongoing physical needs of newborn
• Effective decision making and critical thinking
• Application of research to practice
• Care of the well woman/waahine and newborn/peepi throughout pregnancy, labour and birth and the puerperium, including referral to appropriate services
• Prioritising midwifery care and time management
• Holistic application of individualised midwifery care including consideration of the social determinants of health
• Professional accountability in midwifery practice
• Therapeutic and professional communication skills - Assessment Criteria

*The above two assessments must be passed to pass the module.
The portfolio is comprised of multiple components.
Students need to provide evidence against all learning outcomes, and gain an overall mark of 50% to pass this module.
Students must meet all the clinical requirements, including evidence of a minimum of 150 hours clinical placement to be eligible to pass this module. - Teaching and Learning Strategy
