To develop counselling knowledge and skills with a focus on affecting change in the counselling process, integrating theory from both Maori and western approaches and contributing to the wellbeing of whanau/ tangata whaiora.

1. Discuss and analyse work with whaanau/ tangata whaiora, articulating a rationale for change and its contribution to well-being.
2. Analyse social, cultural, political, and ethical factors that arise from the change process with whaanau/ tangata whaiora.
3. Analyse cultural discourses and the influence on professional practice
4. Facilitate transformational change with clients through respectful, collaborative relationships.
Content
- This module will include a minimum of 50 hours of practicum (including minimum 25 hours face-to-face counselling and minimum 25 hours agency)
- Counselling approaches
- Factors contributing to change, and implications for counselling practice
- Theoretical, contextual, and therapeutic integration of theory and practice.
- Ethical considerations
- Respectful, collaborative relationships
- Change process(es) facilitated with whaanau / tangata whaiora
- Professional and personal issues that arise in relation to counselling practice and counselling context
Teaching and Learning Strategy
May include: Project-based Learning; Flipped Classroom; Blended Learning; Work-Integrated Learning; Inclusive Practices.
Methods may include workshops and practical classes, tutorials, case-based learning, inquiry-based learning, group activities & discussion, supported online learning, e-portfolio, practice simulation.

Assessment Criteria
The portfolio is comprised of multiple components.
Students need to provide evidence against all learning outcomes, and gain an overall mark of 50% to pass this module.
Students must meet all the practicum placement requirements, including complete a minimum of 50 hours of practicum (including minimum 25 hours face-to-face counselling and minimum 25 hours agency) to be eligible to complete this module.
