Students will articulate a philosophy and theory of counselling children and young people. They will analyse theories and therapies that support their bi-cultural counselling practice with children and young people within the multi-cultural context of Aotearoa New Zealand.

- 1. Analyse developmental issues and gender, ethnic, and cultural considerations which
influence the counsellor relationship in understanding children and young people in
counselling.
2. Evaluate the theories and models of counselling which are used with children and young
people in their whnau context.
3. Articulate and theorise a counselling relationship with children and young people.
4. Articulate a rationale for modalities selected. - Content
- Therapeutic modalities for working with children, which may include but not limited to sand play, puppets, art and story books
- Teaching and Learning Strategy
- May include: Project-based Learning; Flipped Classroom; Blended Learning; Work-Integrated Learning; Inclusive Practices.
