- By the end of this module, the student will be able to:
1. Demonstrate critical thinking and reasoning by applying these skills to evaluating classic and current research literature.
2. Analyze qualitative and quantitative data and explain how evidence gathered supports or refutes an initial hypothesis.
3. Participate in discussion groups on research and develop advanced skills in debating research topics.
4. Independently apply highly specialised knowledge and skills to complex and sometimes unpredictable problems.
5. Exhibit and apply advanced academic writing, research and argumentation skills to a human performance context. - Content
- Review and critique of literature
o Published research is used and applied to the practice of the student’s specialist discipline,
o Research strategies appropriate to enquiry in the chosen area of practice are identified and analysed and by using and evaluating various technologies that aid the research process (e.g. the Internet, EndNote, Mendeley, Papers).
Quantitative and qualitative data analysis
o Quantitative methods are applied to data sets using computer software packages (e.g. Microsoft Excel; Statscloud; SPSS)
o Qualitative methods of analysis are used appropriately.

Research questions, hypotheses and problem statement
Ethics and cultural principles of research, with particular reference to Maori and Pasifika

- An overall mark of 50% or greater is required to pass this Module.
