Prescription
To provide students with the necessary knowledge, attributes and skills to prepare for surgical procedures and use and maintain surgical instruments and equipment. Students will also learn how to provide support for anaesthetic monitoring and work in accordance with health and safety requirements for anaesthesia. Includes 40 hours work placement.

- 1:Prepare the surgery theatre, patient and staff for procedures, implementing principles of asepsis as appropriate
2:Demonstrate and explain correct care, use and maintenance of surgical instrumentation and equipment

4.Describe the effects of anaesthesia on patient physiology - Content
- -Medical terminology for surgical nursing and anaesthesia; health and safety of anaesthesia; use, care and maintenance of anaesthetic and monitoring equipment; monitoring parameters for anaesthetised patients and normal values
-Applied Anatomy and Physiology (neurologic, respiratory, cardiovascular, special senses)
-Theatre practice (maintenance of asepsis, surgical instrumentation and equipment, sterilisation, open gloving); principles of patient prep for routine / basic surgical procedures.
-Professional practice attributes: Compliance with workplace health and safety requirements; knowledge of relevant legislation and animal welfare standards; sustainable practice; effective communication skills; professional and ethical behaviour; cultural recognition and sensitivity; teamwork; accurate record-keeping. - Teaching and Learning Strategy
