About

Andrew is one of the Arboriculture Tutors based at the Wintec Hamilton Gardens Campus. He has worked as an arborist for more than 20 years after training at Wintec back in 1994. He worked for various arb companies throughout New Zealand and owned his own company in Auckland. Andrew began teaching in 2001 to share his skills and experience with a new generation of arborists.

Along with his Diploma in Arboriculture, Andrew has achieved various successes within the arboriculture industry and conservation projects, including winning the NZ Tree Climbing Championship (TCC) three times and representing New Zealand at international TCC’s four times, reaching the top four on one occasion.

Andrew has actively used his tree climbing skills to assist conservation groups, including Kauri 2000 and Waipoua Forest Trust, with seed collecting. He has also assisted with rigging and rope access for multiple TV productions and most recently been a key member of the New Zealand Tree Project (NZTP). The NZTP released in December 2015 a conservation documentary and created the first of its kind composite image of an entire NZ native tree. The project was also featured in the NZ Geographic magazine.
