What do you enjoy about teaching/your job?
I love the contact with bright, motivated students, who are as passionate about interior design. It’s rewarding to guide them to learn and embrace all aspects of Interior Design, find their passion, and develop into designers. Students always bring something new to the classroom, and I am always learning from them.
What do you love about your area?
I love that Interior Design has the capability of improving and creating environments that clients love, whether it’s their place of work or their home. It’s about much more than fabric and paint. I love the contact with people – clients, architects, contractors, and tradesmen. Being able to have knowledge in all these areas is important to be able to communicate the design.
Tell us about your experience in the industry
After graduating from Media Arts, I carried on my studies to complete a Diploma in Interior Design. I was lucky enough to begin my career as the Interior Designer for a prominent Hamilton Architect. There I worked on many large and small scale residential and commercial buildings. A have been fortunate enough to work in 2 architectural practices over the last 10 years, acquiring a large knowledge base of the building industry. I began teaching in 2016.
What keeps you busy outside of Media Arts?
Outside of Media Arts, I am kept busy with a houseful of kids, but try to find the time to attend industry related events. I like to catch up with suppliers to keep up to date with the newest products, and I continually observe and analyse every amazing interior I have the chance to visit.
