What do you enjoy about teaching/your job?

I enjoy working with students and introducing them to ideas about culture and communication. At Postgraduate level, I work closely with students to develop ideas and writing closely allied to their projects.

What do you love about your area?

Cultural theory is important to anyone who wants to understand today’s culture(s), the role media plays in them, and how people communicate (or don’t).

Tell us about your experience in the industry

I’ve been a musician, performer and songwriter since my first band   Sneaky Feelings in the 1980s. I’m a member of APRA (Australasian Performing Rights Association) and IASPM (International Association for the Study of Popular Music) and I’m presently writing my third book, about Taika Waititi.

What keeps you busy outside of Media Arts?

I have performed with all kinds of musical groups from rock bands to ukulele orchestras. I enjoy any type of musical activity which you can check out on my Bandcamp profile.
