What do you enjoy about teaching/your job?

I enjoy this role as I get to be surrounded by creative education while being a connection between staff, students, and the curriculum. My previous work as the curator of Ramp Gallery has taught me to juggle multiple things at one time, which has definitely come in handy in this role.

What do you love about your area?

I started out studying contemporary art and combined that with my administration background when I worked as a gallery curator. Even though I’m a bit further away from the gallery at the moment, I still love working in this dynamic area of the creative industries.  Being in an education setting means that I can continue to be inspired by students’ (and staff as researchers) making work and pushing artistic boundaries - which keeps the job interesting.  Joining the communication team has also been a dream, and seeing the students combine their creativity through media, and emerging digital platforms has been inspiring.

Tell us about your experience in the industry

I’m currently a PhD candidate at Central Queensland University where I’m exploring the gallery space and curatorial practice. I have a Bachelor of Media Arts and a Postgraduate Diploma in Fine Arts from Massey University. After that study, I managed and curated Ramp Gallery from 2011 to 2019 until I have moved into this Team Manager role.

What keeps you busy outside of Media Arts?

I have two artistic and clever children that constantly keep me on my toes! I love to spend my weekends chilling with my family and attending the many arts events that happen all around Kirikiriroa - it’s an exciting place to be.  I also have a past career as a jazz singer, currently up on the shelf – perhaps that will make an appearance again one day.
