Sam Elkington
Registered Nurse
Bachelor of Nursing
Sam Elkington’s enrolment in the nursing degree was inspired by her three children. After leaving high school early to join the New Zealand Army, she wanted to teach them that it doesn’t matter if you want to go back to study later on in life. The combination of being a solo mum, her experiences in the Army and the teaching at Wintec have made her a well-rounded person and nurse, ready to excel in the field of nursing.
With the support of her family Sam took every opportunity she could in the degree, and created a Facebook page so students could communicate while studying.
“ROC your degree,” she says. “Responsibility, opportunity, communication.”
Sam works as a registered nurse at the Waikato Hospital, making procedures a little less daunting.
“I like to know I’m making a difference in a patient’s experience.”
“Wintec gave me the skills that I needed to go out into the world as a nurse."
