“I had a desire to do something great and daring, to have my life be an adventure - something that would take me places. I wanted to take the road less travelled.”

“I knew I wanted to be a songwriter when I was 16,” says Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Chanelle Davis. “I had a desire to do something great and daring, to have my life be an adventure - something that would take me places. I wanted to take the road less travelled.”

Since studying at Wintec, Davis has performed across New Zealand, appeared multiple times on TV, and travelled as far as Boston, Nashville and Canada to write and record. She has also had the experience of being mentored by Berklee College of Music songwriting guru Pat Pattison, who includes examples of her writing in his book Songwriting Without Boundaries.

Davis says an important step in her journey was a third-year internship paper which she completed at Dawn Raid Entertainment.  “My internship was crucial in bridging the gap between being a student and being out there in the world.  I learned so much from people in the music industry, and built relationships that moved my career forward – you can’t do that in a classroom."

Winning the APRA Best Children’s Music Award for her song ‘If I Was A Fuzzy Buzzy Bumblebee’ opened a whole new world of writing music for kids, and Davis is now recording her first children’s album.
