Wintec recognises top adult learners

Wintec's annual Adult Learner Awards were held on 9 September and saw six adult students recognised for their efforts while studying.

The awards are Wintec's way of acknowledging Adult Learners' Week, He Tangata Matauranga (8-14 September), and each recipient received an award worth $1000.

This year's winners are:

  • Erin Majurey, studying a Bachelor of Media Arts (Communication) and National Diploma in Journalism at Wintec's School of Media Arts;
  • Annie Frogley, studying a Bachelor of Midwifery at Wintec's Centre of Health and Social Practice;
  • Joshy Vithayathil, studying  a Certificate in Trade Technology – Plumbing and nominated for his successful completion of Certificate in English at Wintec's Centre for Languages;
  • Bronwyn Fleet, studying a Bachelor of Midwifery at Wintec's Centre of Health and Social Practice;
  • Donna-Lee Biddle, studying a Bachelor of Media Arts (Communication) at Wintec's School of Media Arts;
  • Chien-Chi Lin, studying a Graduate Diploma of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages at Wintec's School of Education.

The awards are available to all students aged 25 and above studying at Wintec and are given to outstanding adult learners who:

  • Learn with infectious enthusiasm;
  • Demonstrate a commitment to his/her programme of study;
  • Support and encourage other learners to engage in learning activities;
  • Are willing to share new skills, knowledge and abilities with others; and
  • Challenge him/herself and others with new ideas.

Wintec Chief Executive Mark Flowers said the award winners are students who have really made an impact while studying at Wintec and have stood out to their tutors for all the right reasons.
 
"Many have overcome significant obstacles to study and these awards are our way of formally recognising their efforts and achievements."
 
The awards were presented at a ceremony held at The Atrium, in Wintec House, which was attended by nominees, their families, and Wintec staff and tutors.
