Students develop brand for local organisation
Wintec Communication students will soon see their very own logo around town, after their brand campaign was selected by the Waikato Environment Centre for its new food rescue initiative.
The winning brand, Kaivolution, and the strategy behind it was chosen from five concepts, after groups of students pitched their ideas to a panel from the Waikato Environment Centre, including manager, Ruth Seabright.
“We chose Kaivolution because it demonstrated the environmental nature of our initiative and would appeal to the large range of stakeholders we engage with,” says Ruth.
“However, all of the presentations and concepts were truly amazing. The groups put so much work into their ideas and the creativity that came through was excellent.”
The brand will be implemented immediately and the new logo will be seen across a range of platforms including the organisation’s website and the Kaivolution food rescue van.
The students were given a brief from the Waikato Environment Centre. From this they created a branding strategy, name and logo for the organisation’s new food rescue initiative which involves collecting excess food from local donors and distributing it to agencies who provide for members of the community in need.
Winning team member, Katy Ritchie, says the experience has been hugely rewarding.
“It was amazing to experience first-hand just how much work goes into the branding process. It will be exciting to see the food rescue van driving around town with our logo on it.”
Karen McLeod, who was also part of the winning team, credits the strength of the winning brand to working on a real project which will have a real impact.
"We enjoyed working with Ruth and the Waikato Environment Centre and contributing to a project so beneficial to the community."
