Interior design student lands dream job 5/12/2014
Twenty-year-old Wintec interior design student, Matt South, is about to start his dream job with Hamilton company Turton/Oliver Interior Design Ltd.
While he feels like the luckiest person in his class, his employers Bronwyn Turton and Mel Oliver, say they are the lucky ones to have Matt come on board, after he volunteered his services free of charge to gain experience.
Matt will start the job in late January 2015 after recently completing his Diploma in Interior Design at Wintec.
He has received straight As throughout the two-year fulltime course and specialises in rendering and general 3D imaging.
“I’m so excited to be heading out into the workforce and this job is exactly what I was hoping to get into.
“The interior design programme is jam-packed, fast-paced and designed to help you leave study industry-ready, which is exactly how I feel.
“I’ll bring a new way of doing things to my job a new way of displaying and showcasing ideas,” he says.
“Matt is special. He is very skilled, passionate and dedicated,” says Turnton/Oliver director Bronwyn Turton.
“We didn’t have a position for him when he approached us about interning with us one day a week. But the way he fit into our team, and the skills and drive he displayed in that time with us, meant that it would have been harder for us to let him go somewhere else, than to find a position for him here.”
Wintec’s two-year Diploma in Interior Design is a practical course aimed at developing students’ abilities in interior design from conceptual stages through to fully resolved interior proposals. Students learn current industry skills from practicing interior designers and have access to the latest industry technology.
