Wintec students compete to stamp their design on Good George can
Waikato Institute of Technology (Wintec) students have been challenged to create the concept for a new Good George Brewing can label.
In conjunction with Wintec's School of Media Arts, Good George has launched a competition encouraging aspiring designers to come up with a new special edition can label design for the Pilsner brew.
The competition kicked off late last year with entries closing on 8 February 2016. The winning design will then be printed and applied to a limited edition run of cans.
Wintec's graphic design and digital design tutor Luke McConnell says the competition is a great opportunity for the students to partner with a leading local business like Good George.
"It's great to give our graphic design students the opportunity to take on a project that will go right through to production. Making sure students have all the skills they need to succeed in industry, from design through to delivery is really important to us, so this project aligns really well with what we're all about," he said.
Good George sales and marketing manager Shannon Thorpe says the competition is a chance for young designers to showcase their skills to the public.
"We're not short of ideas but this competition is a chance for young designers to bring us new and different designs. We're hoping to see something surprising and unexpected.
"The competition will end up with one student's work being turned in to a completed retail product for sale in the market and for a young designer still in study that's a pretty exciting prospect."
The Wintec/Good George collaboration can will be available from select retailers and the Good George online store from April 2016.
