Wintec well represented at media awards
Wintec is once again well represented in the Canon Media Awards with recent journalism graduate Te Ahua Maitland up for Student Reporter of the Year.
The awards are the New Zealand publishing industry’s premier awards, held annually to encourage, showcase and acknowledge the best of the country's newspapers, magazines and websites, as well as the work of feature writers, columnists, cartoonists, reviewers and photographers.
This marks the fifth year in a row that Wintec has had a journalism graduate nominated in this category, with Wintec alumni Don Rowe (2015), Jenna Lynch (2013) and Johnny Carson (2012) all previously taking out the award.
Te Ahua was nominated for the award by her current work place, the Waikato Times, where she secured employment after impressing them during an internship while studying.
Te Ahua was also recognised at the Wintec School of Media Arts’ Special Awards ceremony during graduation week recently, where she took home the Waikato Times Award for Excellence in Journalism.
Te Ahua is joined in the nominees by Wintec Editor in Residence Aimie Cronin, who is up for Feature Writer of the Year and Wintec graduates Rachel Thomas, Flo Kerr, Danielle Nicholson, Aaron Leaman, Gabrielle Stuart and Harkenwal Singh are also nominated for awards.
Winners will be announced on Friday, 20 May at an awards ceremony in Auckland.
