Three Wintec Centre for Health and Social Practice students received prestigious Ministry of Health scholarships at an event last week.
First year nursing student Kerry Orme and first year Midwifery students, Cera Ngakuru and her daughter Xiyas Ngakuru, were awarded Pacific Health Scholarships to go towards the cost of their study.
The students were selected from 350 applicants and received their scholarships at an event held at Auckland University hosted by Associate Minister of Health Nicky Wagner.
Recipients had to meet academic criteria to be elligible, and were chosen on their ability to demonstrate community involvement, leadership qualities and commitment to Pacific communities.
The scholarships cover 80% of course fees for students who are undertaking a course in health or disability-related studies accredited by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) or the New Zealand Vice Chancellors Committee.
