The New Zealand National Fieldays Society (NZNFS) awarded two Wintec business students with scholarships valued at $10,000 each.
The students Jamie Hodge and Kimberley Snook are in their third year of study at Wintec. They received respectively the Doug Baldwin Event Management Scholarship and the Kaye Baldwin Bachelor of Applied Management Scholarship at a ceremony held at Wintec last week, recognising academic excellence.
“We enjoy seeing our students succeed in their studies; with the ultimate goal being to see them enter great careers and contribute to building better communities,” Said Acting Director of Wintec Centre for Business, Information Technology and Enterprise Marlene Pouri-Lane.
“These scholarships from the New Zealand National Fieldays Society are significant as they assist students greatly to achieve their education goals. We value Fieldays Society for the partnership we have, and the support you give our students through this scholarship opportunity.”
Jamie and Kimberley, the two recipients, will participate in hands-on work experience at the Society’s headquarters in Mystery Creek, Hamilton. For Jamie, being awarded the Doug Baldwin Event Management Scholarship is an exciting chance to gain experience.
“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity in the events industry as Fieldays is a significant national event.”
Kimbereley, awarded the Kaye Baldwin Bachelor of Applied Management Scholarship is a third-year accounting student and will join the Mystery Creek finance team to work on events and finance projects.
“The scholarship will enable me to apply the theory I am studying to a practical environment and real-life situations,” Kimberley said.
“I am looking forward to learning about the systems the finance team are implementing and how they contribute to the overall organisation,” she added.
“These scholarships are about recognising and helping young people coming into the event industry. We are delighted to be able to support them and also to be able to name them after two long-serving life members recognising the enormous dedication of namesakes Doug and Kaye,” said Peter Nation, Chief Executive of the NZNFS.
Life members Doug and Kaye Baldwin, who the awards are named after, were also on hand to pass on their congratulations. The Baldwins have been involved with Fieldays since the event first began in 1969.
To be eligible for the scholarship, students must be enrolled in the Bachelor of Applied Management (Level 7). The scholars receive financial contributions and mentorship by the NZNFS, with the opportunity to work alongside staff at Society's event.
