From Hamilton to Denmark…Exploring overseas study options

Denmark may be half a world away but it has a number of similarities to New Zealand that make it appealing as a student exchange option.
With a similar population (5.7 million compared to New Zealand’s 4.8 million), an impressive 406 islands and 7,314 kilometres of coastline (New Zealand has 600 islands and 15,000 kilometres of coastline), like New Zealand, Denmark is often voted as one of the world’s best places to live.
Wintec design tutor and School of Media Arts graduate, Loryn Engelsman, recently spent a week at VIA University College in Denmark and can confirm that it’s a wonderful place to visit.
“Wow, what a great college and an awesome experience. After spending a week at VIA University College, I can already think of a few Wintec students that I’ve taught who would benefit from some of the courses they offer here”, says Loryn.
Loryn is currently on leave from her Wintec job while she enjoys a typical Kiwi OE, but took time out from sightseeing to explore student and staff exchange opportunities at VIA University College in central Denmark.
During her week at VIA, Loryn was given campus tours and immersed herself in several different learning areas from marketing, fashion, design, film, to trend spotting and analysis and forecasting how these trends will affect the marketplace.
She also taught a branding and design workshop and showcased Wintec’s School of Media Arts to VIA students who have the option of an exchange with Wintec.
Wintec has been partners with VIA University College since 2010 and last year Wintec’s School of Media Arts hosted two students from VIA.
VIA offers an incredible, modern and innovative art and design programme and Wintec Media Arts students are encouraged to take advantage of this reciprocal exchange.
Wintec also has study exchange programmes available in Austria, Canada, Chile, China, Finland, France, Netherlands, Poland, Sweden and South Korea,
