Te Pūkenga welcomes Wintec into the whānau

Earlier today, our Wintec CE Dave Christiansen, alongside Toi Ohomai CE Leon Fourie, and Te Pūkenga CE Stephen Town, announced the early move of Wintec and Toi Ohomai into Te Pūkenga.

This positive development will see Toi Ohomai and Wintec lead the sector as the first two ITPs to transition into our new unified, national network, Te Pūkenga. This move highlights the change readiness of our two institutes and the strengths of our collective teams. This transition is fully supported by both our Toi Ohomai and Wintec boards. The completion of the move of Toi Ohomai and Wintec into Te Pūkenga will be finalised by 31 May 2022.

Leadership Change Announcement:

  • Toi Ohomai Chief Executive Dr Leon Fourie will take up the role of Wintec/Toi Ohomai Transitional Executive Lead to steer our organisations through this change. This role will mean that Dr Fourie will manage the Wintec Executive Leadership Team and Toi Ohomai Senior Leadership Team. There will be no other changes to reporting lines of kaimahi/staff within each organisation.

  • Wintec Chief Executive David Christiansen will take on a new role of ITP Transition Lead within Te Pūkenga. This role will ensure that future transitioning subsidiary CEs have the support they will need along this critical transformation journey.

  • These roles are effective from 1 June, 2022 until 31 December, 2022; both report to Te Pūkenga Chief Executive Stephen Town.

What this means for our kaimahi/staff:

  • There are no changes to any roles and reporting lines, except for CE and governance arrangements

  • The strategic direction, key initiatives, relationships/partnerships and plans for Toi Ohomai and Wintec will continue in their current capacity

  • The Toi Ohomai and Wintec names and brands will remain in place until the end of March 2023, when they will fully transition to Te Pūkenga along with all other ITPs across the network

  • We will continue to be strong teams, working to support the changes ahead.

What this means for our ākonga/students:

  • There is no change to the day-to-day teaching and learning activities of staff and learners. All relationships with tutors and programs will continue seamlessly.

  • You will remain enrolled as a student of Wintec

  • For Wintec learners who complete fully their studies in 2022 –you will receive a Wintec certificate (either in absentia or at the graduation ceremony in 2023). For Wintec learners who complete fully under a subsidiary in 2022 but are not completed and conferred before the end of 2022, then you will receive a co-branded certificate

  • We remain committed to providing you with an exceptional student experience to help you succeed in your learning journey and future career

Governance and management:

  • Our current boards will be dis-established by 31 May 2022. The two entities will report to Te Pūkenga management and governance.

  • Te Pūkenga management and an interim reference group of at least two Te Pūkenga Council members and two additional members to enhance our Te Tiriti relationship will be established to support Toi Ohomai and Wintec until the Operating Model implementation.

  • The operations of Wintec and Toi Ohomai will be absorbed as they currently stand into Te Pūkenga. There will be no staffing changes other than that to the role of the Chief Executives and the dissolution of the ITP boards.

As we move towards Te Pūkenga, we will continue to communicate regularly and provide you with as much clarity as possible.
