Adastra Scholarship Programme
Background
Our vision is success for extraordinary young New Zealanders on the national and international stage. The Adastra Foundation was established in 2007 to provide financial Adastra is delighted to offer scholarships to extraordinary young athletes and performing artists (dancers and musicians), from Waikato and Bay of Plenty, striving for success on the national and international stage. Our programme includes a cash bursary and personal development workshop, specifically designed for young adults aiming to be the best they can be, on and off their stage.
Up to 75 Scholars are supported each year, meeting specific criteria and performance standards given below.
Bursaries are typically $1,000 to assist with performance-related costs. The personal development workshop is an authentic, informative, inspirational, and fun experience immersed for two days at the Podium Lodge and Avantidrome in Cambridge.
Adastra is grateful to be supported in this regard by Grassroots Trust, The Lion Foundation, TECT, and The Brian Perry Charitable Trust.
Eligibility
- Awards are available to athletes and musicians only
- Candidates should be between the ages of 16-23*
- Candidates must be resident in the Waikato/BOP region
- Candidates must be representing a Waikato/BOP club (if relevant)
- For applicants that have received scholarships in past years, consideration is given to previous engagement in the programme
Athletes
Are you:
- A leading sportsperson in your discipline?
- Winning national titles?
- Demonstrating outstanding dedication and positive attitude towards achieving goals?
- Committed to your chosen sport with clear long term goals?
Performing Artists
Are you:
- A holder of any recognised music qualification(s)?
- Planning on enrolling in a tertiary institution to study music or performing arts?
- Considered to have the potential or to be amongst the best in your chosen area of music or performing arts?
Note: while NCEA curriculum achievement in music will be noted, more emphasis will be placed on involvement and success in the co-curricular programmes such as Smokefreerockquest, Play It Strange, Pacifica Beats, Battle of the Bands, Lexus Song Quest and the like.
Application
Please include in your application:
- Completed application form.
- A letter stating your reasons for applying for the scholarship describing your future
plans and any community involvement you may have. - Your CV covering education qualifications and/or achievements, work history,
interests, and any other relevant information. - Two written references (signed and dated). Note, if you have previously applied for this scholarship please update your references and other relevant information.
