Exercise Science and Outdoor Education (Level 3)

About the programme

The Exercise Science and Outdoor Education Level 3 programme develops industry-relevant skills and knowledge for those interested in sport science, exercise, and outdoor education.

You will have the opportunity to experience a variety of sports, recreation, coaching, outdoor recreation, and industry credits, achieved both onsite at Rotokauri Campus and in the field within an hour of campus. Participate in activities such as personal training, sports coaching, umpiring, industry site visits, mountain biking, tramping, caving, and rock climbing. You will also learn about effective communication, team building, interpersonal skills, kaitiakitanga, and risk management.

This will allow you to explore career pathways first-hand in sport science, exercise, and outdoor recreation. Once completed, you can move to higher-level study within our Centre for Sport Science and Human Performance level 4 exercise and outdoor programmes.

NCEA level: Level 3

Criteria: Students enrolled in the WTA must still attend secondary school and keep up with normal school work. The unit standards achieved at the WTA will count towards NCEA Level 1, 2, or 3.​

Number of credits: 27

Duration of programme: 31 weeks

Programme structure: One day per week (8.30am-3pm) during the school term

Location: Rotokauri Campus, Hamilton

Cost: Free to the student

Transport: To be arranged with your school and covered by WTA (if applicable)
