About the programme

Do you have an interest in a health career? This programme will give you a broad introduction to health and wellbeing, giving you foundational knowledge for further study in this field. 

You will explore a range of health topics, including the anatomy and physiology of the human body, the principles of infection control, how infection is caused and spread, influences that contribute to mental health challenges, and factors to establish good mental health and wellbeing. You will learn about lifespan stages, wellness indicators, and appropriate interventions and support for people at different stages of life.

Contributing to a community project and visiting a range of local community organisations will allow you to gain experience in the wellbeing community. You will see first-hand the importance of belonging to a community, discover available resources, and the benefits of recreation for individuals and the community.

This programme includes both Level 2 and 3 credits. Completing this programme will provide foundational knowledge that supports further study in the Wintec Te Ara Pūtake My Academic Pathway Level 4 certificate.

Criteria: Students enrolled in the WTA must still attend secondary school and keep up with their normal school work.

Duration of programme: 31 weeks

Programme structure: 1 day per week (8.30am-3pm) during the school term.

Location: Rotokauri Campus

Cost: Free to the student

Transport: To be arranged with your school and, if applicable, covered by WTA
