Café Skills (Level 2)

About the programme

In this programme, you will gain highly transferable skills that will allow you to progress in your chosen career. The project-based Café Skills programme is hands-on, allowing you the opportunity to work in commercial kitchens and restaurant services. Students will have the opportunity to gain NCEA Level 2 qualification and café skills required by industry.

The tutors will lead you through preparing and applying icings and glazes, through to bakery products, practising food safety methods and preparing and baking basic loaves of bread. In the Food and Beverage section, you will provide table service, prepare and serve hot and cold non-alcoholic drinks, prepare and clear areas for table service, and espresso coffee equipment and preparation.

Duration of programme: 31 weeks

Programme structure: 1 day per week (8.30-3pm) during the school term.

Location: Rotokauri Campus, 51 Akoranga Rd, Hamilton.

Cost: Free to the student.

Transport: To be arranged with your school and covered by WTA (if applicable).

Year 2 entry criteria: To move on, you will need to have completed 80% of the available credits in year one, and 100% of the available credits in both of your chosen year two modules. Candidates who do not meet these criteria may be accepted at the discretion of the WTA.
