About placements/projects
There are two categories of Information Technology placements:
- Industry Placement/Internship
- Industry projects
Industry placements (internships) are about giving a student real work experience in an Information Technology role in your business. They will come and work in your IT business with your supervision. We have many successful placements where the business has gone on to employ the student.
Industry projects are a group of students working independently to deliver a project or solve an IT problem. Examples of past projects are digital storytelling with virtual reality, mobile application development to assist memory recall for people with brain injuries and go cart sensor development.
Our students will take on a range of software development, and you don’t have to be an IT business. The idea behind the project is having a real customer and real project that that student must manage and deliver. Examples of types of projects are:
- Augmented reality application
- Database creation; for example booking systems
- Games programming
- Product development
- Software development
- Web Application development
- Web site development with database integration or interactivity
- Vertical reality application
If you have an IT idea or problem to be solved talk to us.
All of our students have an academic supervisor whom they meet with on a regular basis for guidance and delivery tracking. There are two levels of students. Our postgraduate students who must already have a degree with a minimum of B+ average mark, and our bachelors degree students that are completing a capstone project or internship as the final paper in their qualification.
All of our placements are unpaid unless there is a previous employment agreement.

Time required
All placements are 300 hours over 16 weeks. These hours work out to approximately 2 days per week. However, they are flexible for each placement and student. For example, some students may do 3 days over a shorter period. larger projects can still have multiple students working on them to increase the hours.
The placements run in our two main semesters mid-February - mid-June and mid-July to mid-November. The start and end dates are negotiable with the host organisation.
